Think about running a business where overseeing critical infrastructure, from municipal water systems to airport runway lighting, is a daily task. Now, imagine handling it all with 75 different software solutions. That was the reality for OmniSite, a leading name in utility monitoring, before they found Odoo. Today, with a fully integrated ERP system, OmniSite has boosted efficiency, reduced manual work, and streamlined operations, driving its vision for AI-powered advancements in utility management.

Founded in 1999 by an engineer with a vision, OmniSite began in a garage and grew into a powerhouse in utility monitoring. The company provides cellular alarm monitoring devices for water, wastewater, and airport runway lighting systems. Their solutions help municipalities and commercial businesses ensure safety and efficiency in critical infrastructure.

Alongside OmniSite, the family-owned company also operates DriBot, a business focused on residential water and wastewater monitoring. DriBot provides solutions designed to prevent water damage, detect leaks, and deliver emergency alerts in the event of power outages or freezing temperatures. The flagship product, DriBot, is an advanced triplex sump pump system.

A web of disconnected software

As a leader in IoT technology, OmniSite was one of the first companies to integrate cellular components into monitoring systems, offering greater flexibility compared to traditional telephone line solutions. This early adoption of technology set the foundation for continued innovation, but as the company expanded, its software infrastructure became increasingly complex.

“We had about 75 different software solutions, and keeping track of everything was overwhelming. Odoo became our solution to consolidate, streamline, and truly optimize our processes.”

Before Odoo, OmniSite relied on an extensive suite of disconnected tools, including Zoho CRM, QuickBooks, Volusion, ShipStation, WordPress, and multiple data connectors. The lack of integration led to duplicate data entry, inefficiencies, and errors in information transfer.

One of the company’s biggest pain points was its WordPress-based website. When they lost access to their administrator account, they were locked out completely. Thanks to Odoo’s website builder, OmniSite was able to set up a new site within a day, avoiding a prolonged disruption.

Odoo saved us when we lost access to our WordPress site. We were only down for one day while we built a new website from scratch. That was incredible for us,” Lydia says.

A new era of efficiency:
The Odoo's impact

The search for a comprehensive, all-in-one system led OmniSite to Odoo. Initially, they experimented with Odoo’s SH platform, but when they realized they needed a fully integrated, scalable solution, they transitioned to Odoo Online. The move proved transformational.

One of the most immediate improvements was in inventory management. Before Odoo, performing a cycle count could take two to three hours every week. With Odoo’s manufacturing and inventory tracking modules, that time was reduced to under an hour.

Additionally, OmniSite implemented Odoo’s Helpdesk app, streamlining customer support and improving response times. Now, employees can efficiently track customer interactions, flag recurring issues, and resolve support tickets faster than ever before.

"With Odoo’s helpdesk system, we can track trends, resolve tickets faster, and organize our support operations much more effectively."

Another major transformation came in marketing. OmniSite’s marketing team leveraged Odoo’s email marketing and newsletter tools, reaching thousands of customers each month, an audience they had previously struggled to engage.

One of the biggest wins for OmniSite has been the integration of Odoo’s subscription module. Because their business relies on cellular monitoring subscriptions, they needed a robust billing system. Previously, their team managed subscriptions using outdated custom-built solutions and QuickBooks, requiring 12 to 15 employees to manually process payments and track customer accounts.

“Our subscription management was a nightmare before Odoo. Now, with Odoo’s features, we’re reducing a process that took 12-15 people down to just two or three, allowing our team to focus on AI-driven research and development.”

What is next?

Looking ahead, OmniSite is planning to expand its use of Odoo even further. The next step is implementing Odoo’s HR suite to enhance employee management, appraisals, and performance tracking.

Beyond software, the company is developing AI-driven products for both its residential and municipal sectors. One of the most ambitious projects, called WINGS, is a next-generation utility monitoring system that uses AI to analyze bacteria readings in wastewater plants, enabling faster, more proactive decision-making.

WINGs serves as an advanced multimodal data collector, alarm monitor, PLC gateway, and camera surveillance device, representing the next generation of SCADA systems.

OmniSite’s journey highlights how Odoo can revolutionize operations for businesses of all sizes. By consolidating software solutions, eliminating inefficiencies, and enabling seamless automation, Odoo provides the flexibility and scalability needed for long-term growth.
